Description
Responsible leader. This research project studies Finnish Air Traffic Controller’s (ATCO) professional excellence. The aim is to find and describe qualifications, competences and predictors which explain ATCO’s excellent working practices, procedures and problem-solving skills in the work context. To address these goals, we have formulated following research questions: (1) What characteristics specify successful ATCO’s?; (2) How ATCO’s characteristics differ during training period and working life?; (3) What characteristics specify ATCO’s initial interest towards the work field, perseverance in acquiring a vocational skill and mastery of the skill?; (4) What characteristics specify ATCO’s optimal work environment?; (5) What are the ATCO’s most essential natural abilities?; (6) What are the ATCO’s most essential self-regulatory abilities?; (7) What is the influence of domain and non-domain specific factors to ATCO’s talent development?Abovementioned research questions are examined using theoretical concept analysis, interviews (key persons and ATCOs), and a survey study (ATCO’s responses related to available register information, e.g., incident reports, entrance test data and study records).Research partners in this three-year (2011-2013) project are: Avia College (FinAvia), SkyHow and University of Tampere. Research is funded by TEKES (Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation).Period | 2011 → 2013 |
