    Description

Contributors: Kortesoja Matti / It is no news to anybody that power, culture and the economy are interlinked. Yet answers to the question how they are interlinked vary considerably. Orthodox economists approach the issues of power and culture from the viewpoint of utility calculation. Radical cultural constructionists claim that signification is the base on which both economy and organized use of power rests. Analysts of power insist that power is everywhere, and that the real task here is to study the transforming dispositif’s, or mechanisms of power. Field theorists of different types add yet another aspect to the debate, and actor network theorists claim that everybody else has up to date neglected the material aspects of power, culture and the economy and suggest the study of agencement. These and many other approaches to the interrelationships of power, culture and the economy will be tackled in papers and presentations ranging from purely theoretical to painstakingly empirical and from the global macro perspective to the finest details of micro contexts in this biennial conference now to be organized for the fourth time.
