University teachers’ conceptions about teaching and learning: Focus on higher education in Gaza, Palestinian territories

The study explores university teachers’ conceptions about teaching and learning in Islamic University of Gaza, Palestinian Territories. The research data were collected through four focus-group interviews conducted with 18 university teachers and analysed applying qualitative phenomenographic approach. The analysis identified ten conceptions about teaching and learning in higher education which are further discussed in relation to teaching approaches (teacher-centred and student-centred approaches). The research findings provide information for designing a pedagogical development programme within an international cooperation project between this Palestinian institution and a Finnish university.
