Description

A publicly available model for AI-powered handwritten text recognition and transcription of historical documents on the Transkribus platform. Created by Ilkka Jokipii (National Archives of Finland), Sami Suodenjoki (Tampere University) and Maria Niku (Finnish Literature Society). The Ground Truth set of the training material consists of Finnish Court Records from 1870 to 1917, Citizens' letters to the Governor General’s Office from 1893 to 1917, and diaries of Eliel Aspelin-Haapkylä. This is the first version of the model and it will be improved.
