Marja Helena Sivonen holds a Master of Social Science degree in Global and Transnational Sociology, which she obtained from Tampere University. She currently serves as a doctoral researcher within the Faculty of Social Sciences, specialising in sociology, at Tampere University. Her research position is based at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke). Her doctoral thesis is dedicated to a comprehensive exploration of the intricate nexus between energy transitions and national security, with a particular focus on the political and power dynamics in Estonia, Finland, and Norway spanning the years 2006 to 2023. Furthermore, her scholarly endeavors encompass the examination of Arctic energy transition and security matters from both Finnish and Norwegian perspectives. Sivonen assumes a role as a member of the Tampere research group for Cultural and Political Sociology and additionally holds the positions of board member and treasurer at The Arctic Society of Finland.
