Profile information

Mika Kautonen, D.Sc. (Regional Studies), is Vice-Director at the Research Centre for Science, Technology, and Innovation Studies (TaSTI), Tampere University, as well as an Adjunct Professor in University of Turku, both in Finland.

He has approximately 30 years of experience in research and 24 years in research leadership. His current research interests relate especially to the themes of innovation for sustainability and transformative innovation policy and practice.

Kautonen is the head of the International Globelics Academy Ph.D. School for Innovation & Development. He holds several international positions of trust.

With his team, Kautonen collaborates extensively with a variety of stakeholders to increase the societal impact of research. Currently, he leads or collaborates in several transformative innovation projects in Africa, mostly in Namibia, related to civil aviation, circular economy and renewable energy, as well as digitalization of education.
