Dynamic Wavefront Control for Terahertz 6G Cellular Systems

Project Details

Description

In spite 5G New Radio (NR) cellular systems operating in millimeter wave band were standardized more than five years ago, they have not been deployed so far. The reason is that due to blockage, these systems perform poorly in conditions they were intended for – in areas with a large crowds generating extreme traffic demands. In addition to blockage, the future 6G terahertz systems will also face the challenge of partially operating in the near field region, where the received signal power fluctuates drastically even under small rotations and displacements of user equipment. The aim of this project is to design a dynamic wavefront control system, a fundamentally new cellular system element, allowing to efficiently combat blockages and ensure reliable communication in the near-field. This system will be incorporated into the radio access technology and will not require any additional external components or features.
