Rational design of 2D chalcogenide heterostructures

Project Details

Description

The objective of this project is to design van-der-Waals heterostructures for electrical phase-change memory applications using chalcogenide materials, and to find trends and "rules of thumb" to help others design these types of materials with bespoke properties. During the project, a genetic algorithm code will be developed to optimize chalcogenide heterostructure to have predetermined properties. The code will be used to find structures, and the promising structures will be experimentally grown and characterized to verify the accuracy of the computational predictions. The structures that give promising experimental results will be further studied to obtain insights on the structural elements that make them perform well, as well as to gain characterization data to be published in specialized journals for the respective fields.
