Sustaining Peace amidst Violence at the Mexico-U.S. Border: A Multi-perspective Analysis of the Entanglements between Everyday Peace and Epistemic Violence

This project examines the ways everyday expressions of peace and violence entangle in a social context continuously affected by violence. The main objective is to identify the necessary means and conditions for everyday peace to diminish or mitigate violence, and in particular to counter epistemic violence. Empirically, the project takes place in the city of Tijuana, at the Mexico-U.S. border. The project examines the entanglements of peace and violence from the complexities affecting deported persons, the intersection between violence, visual peace and art, and the process of othering in the media representation of migrants.
