Activated Sludge Model No. 1 Calibration for a Paper Mill Wastewater Treatment Plant

Research output: Other conference contribution › Poster › Scientific

Abstract

Wastewater treatment plants employ aeration treatment processes to remove organic chemical oxygen demand (COD) from wastewater. The activated sludge model No.1 (ASM1) is widely utilized to gain a comprehensive understanding of this process, but it requires a significant number of influent COD samples to estimate the effluent COD. Collecting a large number of influent COD samples can be expensive, particularly without automatic sampling systems. Motivated by calibrating the ASM1 with limited influent wastewater samples, this study uses only a few wastewater samples to generate artificial data using linear regression techniques and identify optimal tuning parameters for estimating effluent COD over an extended period. This approach aims to reduce sample collection costs while providing reliable long-term effluent COD estimations.
