Abstract

The photo-response of Er3+ and Ag+ co-coped amorphous and crystallized tellurite glasses within the TeO2-ZnO-Bi2O3 system to radiation treatment was investigated using a continuous wave CO2 laser. Surface profilometry, micro-Raman, and micro-luminescence were used to study the morphological, structural, and luminescent properties of the irradiated surfaces. The glass network becomes looser after laser irradiation leading to surface expansion. No changes in the Er3+ sites nor crystallization are expected due to laser irradiation. However, the crystallized samples show signs of amorphization after laser treatment as evidenced from the changes in the spectroscopic and structural properties.
