Abstract

Finnish families with children faced first waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 when schools and most day-care centres closed and most parents worked from home. Parents found themselves evaluating the foundations of family life from a new perspective. This chapter investigates how Finnish parents with school-age children construct their views of the family and family time at the beginning of the COVID -19 pandemic. The focus is on parents facing financial difficulties. The data was gathered through the electronic survey conducted in Finland in May 2020. Themes identified in the analysis are a talking family, a family that is together, a family that does things together, a calm family, a close-knit family, a concerned family and an isolated family.
