Moncef Gabbouj (S’86–M’91–SM’95–F’11) is a Professor of signal processing with the Department of Signal Processing, Tampere University of Technology, Tampere, Finland, where he leads the Multimedia Research Group. He was an Honorary Guest Professor of Jilin University, Changchun, China, from 2005 to 2010. He was an Academy Professor with the Academy of Finland from 2011 to 2015. His current research interests include multimedia content-based anal-ysis, indexing and retrieval, machine learning, nonlinear signal and image processing and analysis, voice conversion, and video processing and coding. Dr. Gabbouj is a member of the European Academy and the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. He is the past Chairman of the DSP Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and a member of the IEEE Fourier Award for Signal Processing Committee. He served as a Distinguished Lecturer for the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society from 2004 to 2005 and the Past-Chairman of the IEEE-EURASIP Nonlinear Signal and Image Processing Board. He was the Chairman of the Algorithm Group of the EC COST 211quat. He served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON IMAGE PROCESSING and was a Guest Editor of Multimedia Tools and Applications and European Journal Applied Signal Processing. He is the past Chairman of the IEEE Finland Section, the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, Technical Committee on Digital Signal Processing, and the IEEE SP/CAS Finland Chapter. He is also a member of the EURASIP Advisory Board and a past member of the AdCom. He also served as the Publication Chair and the Publicity Chair of IEEE ICIP 2005 and IEEE ICASSP 2006, respectively, and the Innovation Chair of ICIP 2011. He is a member of the IEEE SP and CAS societies and the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.
