Abstract

Thermal spray coatings can be used for high temperature corrosion protection of heat exchanger surfaces in power plant boilers. In this study, several thermal spray coatings with high chromium content were manufactured with HVOF (high velocity oxy-fuel) technique, and their mechanical properties and high temperature corrosion resistance were tested and analysed. The coating materials included NiCr, IN625 and iron based steel alloy with a nanoscale microstructure Nanosteel SHS9172. High temperature corrosion testing was made in NaCl-KCl-Na2SO4 salt with controlled H2O atmosphere, in temperatures 575 and 625 C. The effect of coating process and following characteristics of the coatings on high temperature corrosion protection properties was analysed. The corrosion test results of the coatings were compared to corrosion resistance of bulk materials (X20, Alloy 263 and Sanicro 25)
