Abstract
In today’s complex landscape, innovation processes involve multiple stakeholders spanning various societal sectors, each governed by distinct institutional logics. Institutional logics encompass values, beliefs, rules and practices derived from different sources of legitimacy, authority, and identity. Coalescing logics result in what is termed institutional complexity, characterized by co-existing and often incompatible institutional prescriptions. While combining institutional logics can enhance innovation, conflicting logics can lead to conflict and hinder collaborative innovation efforts. In this chapter, strategies for addressing institutional complexity are illustrated through a case example.
