    Abstract

The Virtual Enterprise (VE) as a state-of-the-art concept aims to form a coalition by integrating various enterprises temporarily, to complete the common goal by leveraging the capabilities and competencies of alliance members. To achieve this, the latest technologies are required for the implementation of VE concept. Internet of Things (IoT) can be seen as a key enabler for VE regarding its powerful capabilities, which allow Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to leverage the ubiquitous services within the VE. In this paper, the focus is on the opportunities of utilization of IoT -based digital senses by SMEs for the virtual enterprise. The paper also introduces a modular architecture for the proposed solution, which can be employed for the flawless implementation of VE. The non-disruptiveness nature of the proposed solution allows SMEs to integrate the module with the existing system without disturbing the ongoing processes within the enterprise.
