Abstract

In this work, bit error rate analysis of amplify-and-forward cooperative spatial modulation (SM) systems with multiple antennas at relay and destination is investigated. Most of the studies in the literature of cooperative SM systems deal with the space shift keying (SSK), which is a special case of SM, and consider the single receive antenna at relay and destination. As it is known, the error performance of SM improves with increasing number of receive antennas, thus, the investigation of multi-antenna systems is essential. It is shown that the computer simulation results and theoretical results are in close match. On the other hand, cooperative SM with amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying provides 4 and 8 dB signal to noise ratio (SNR) gain for R=3 and R=4 bits/s/Hz spectral efficiency and Nr = 2 receive antenna number, respectively, compared to conventional M-ary cooperative modulated systems.
