Abstract
Purpose – This paper aims to discuss the learning mechanisms used in an inter-organisational project, i.e. transportation project in a developing country. This paper studies the ability of a project to disseminate learning to organisations and across organisations. Design/methodology/approach – An interview-based case study was conducted to examine the Islamabad–Rawalpindi Metro project in Pakistan. Thematic analysis was used for data analysis. Findings – This paper identified four learning mechanisms, which are dissected into organisational and inter-organisational levels. Additionally, the learning mechanisms are interplayed with different types of learning. Originality/value – This paper develops insights concerning mechanisms to disseminate learning at the organisational and inter-organisational levels.
