Abstract
The advancements in technology have provided new opportunities for the delivery of
emergency messages. The Internet is now just as a good option as the more traditional
means of emergency message delivery, such as telephone networks. However some of the
problems concerning information security and technical solutions are quite different from
the problems of the traditional means and the Internet has its own set of challenges.
This Master's Thesis looks briefly at the pre-existing, so called the traditional
means of emergency message delivery, and explains some basic concepts of general
emergency messaging. The major part of this Thesis emphasises on giving an in depth look
at Internet-based emergency systems. This Thesis presents several emergency messaging
system propositions made by others and introduces a new proposition made by the authors
of this Thesis. This new proposition shows how to use client-server architecture to deliver
messages. The problems related to the use of the architecture are analysed. Problems
mentioned in the thesis are information safety, portability and compatibility with other
systems.
