Abstract
Oxidative ethanol dry reforming (OEDR) is a promising method that has been studied over 10%Co/Al2O3 catalyst due to their high activity and stability in the production of high-quality syngas. In this research, the catalyst was prepared using the wet impregnation method and evaluated for OEDR in a quartz fixed-bed reactor at PCO2 =PO2= 5 kPa and PC2H5OH = 15 kPa, with a reaction temperature of 973 K under atmospheric pressure. Thermogravimetric studies confirm the complete calcination of the metal precursor and subsequent reduction to the metal oxide. Both C2H5OH and CO2 conversion to be stable with time-on-stream at beyond 5 h over 10%Co/Al2O3 catalyst. Specifically, at steady-state conditions, the conversions of C2H5OH and CO2 were approximately 86.2% and 52.7%, respectively. There was significantly greater C2H5OH conversion with TOS than CO2 conversion due to coexisting side reactions (namely, ethanol dehydrogenation and/or ethanol decomposition) in OEDR. The yields of H2 and CO at steady-state conditions were approximately 77.1% and 70.2%, respectively.
