Abstract
To become a successful part of the future ambient
intelligence (AmI) technology, RFID needs to be supported
by the legal system. The paper analyses how the current
EU directives on data protection support emerging
applications that are based on RFID tags. The analysis is
founded on examples of technologies and applications. The
paper is to update earlier analyses and use more
realistic and state-of-the-art applications and
