Abstract
This article examines how racialized relations are acknowledged, or overlooked and discarded, in sociological research focusing on Finnish society. Our data consists of research articles (n=151) that have been published between the years 2008 – 2018 in Sosiologia, the major peer reviewed journal in sociology in Finland. Content analysis was used to organize and analyze the research data. The theoretical framework for analyzing individual articles was built on theorizations in the multidisciplinary field of research on racialized relations. The article reveals that despite the rapid demographic changes in Finland, and the increase of identity politics based on racialized identities, racialized social relations are rarely recognized. The article offers some perspectives on how race can be incorporated into research settings, also in countries that do not collect official statistics based on race and ethnicity.
