Abstract

Background
Feedback has been associated with enhanced quality of care and better interpersonal skills among physicians. However, Finnish primary health care lacks systematic feedback models for physicians. The aim of this study was to explore Primary care practitioners’ (PCPs) experiences and expectations of feedback.
Methods
Qualitative study in Finnish primary healthcare. Semi-structured focus group interviews were conducted with 14 PCPs in spring 2023 in Central Finland. The data were analyzed using thematic approach.
Results
Three main themes emerged: current experience of feedback, feedback culture and practices, and the need and request to receive feedback.
Conclusions
Feedback for PCPs should be developed to support their professional growth. The feedback culture within work communities should be consciously cultivated to enable this development.
