Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe parents’ confidence
and experiences in full body reflexology therapy provided to infants
with colic.
Data and methods: The research data for this qualitative study was
collected in Finland from January to August in 2018 by interviewing
fifteen (n=15) parents of infants with colic. The data was obtained
from individual interviews and analyzed with inductive content
analysis.
Results: Parents’ confidence in full body reflexology therapy was
promoted by the information received on reflexology therapy, as
well as the reflexology therapist’s professional competence. The
changes that parents noticed regarding their babies included sleep
relief and alleviation of colic symptoms, which were indicated by
changes in the baby’s sleep quality and rhythm, as well as eating
habits, bowel function, distress from gas, body position and crying.
Conclusions: Results of this research describe parents’ confidence
and experiences of full body reflexology therapy provided for infant
with colic. Parents need information about reflexology therapy as
treatment for infant’s colic. Based on the parents’ experiences it
can be possible to relieve baby’s colic symptoms with full body
reflexology therapy.
