From fixed to mobile: Challenges in rural areas.

Aktiviteetti: Konferenssiesitelmä

Description

In 2010, Finland became the first country to include broadband in its universal service obligation and ensure 1 Mbps internet access for all. However, the recent phase-out of 3G networks in favor of 4G and 5G has created major connectivity issues in rural areas, affecting both businesses and public services. Using Finland as an example, this presentation will discuss the balance between business interests and citizens' communication rights, as well as possible solutions to ensure reliable and fair access to communication infrastructure in sparsely populated areas.
