Profiilitiedot

T. L’s research interests are focused on cardiovascular disease risk factors, atherosclerotic plaques and vascular cell biology and biomarkers, combination of omics and functional genetics and epigenetics of complex traits and system biology of diseases and related bioinformatics. T.L have authorized > 1247 articles that have been cited > 130.000 times. An average citation per article is 63.39 in Web Science. My Google Scholar h-index is 153 and i10-index 919 (=number of publications with at least 10 citations). My most 6 cited article published in Science, Lancet, Nature, and Nature Genetics has been cited over 3261 times and 10 most cited articles all have > 2122  citations. T.L has actively participated in over 100 Lancet, Nature, Nature Genetics, Science, Cell, JAMA, New England J Med papers over the last 10 years, and as a highlight his work in collaboration and individually has led to the discovery of over 5000 novel genetic variants of complex traits and lead their more-accurate DNA testing. T.L is active member of over 40 international consortia, internationally recognized researcher, and member of Academia Europea. T.L was involved in discovering first time the de novo mutations in families with autistic disorders changing the existing textbook understanding of the inheritance of complex traits from parents. These works were published in Science (Science 2007;316:445-449, >3261 citations) and later by fine mapping with NGS in Nature (Nature. 2014;515:209-15, > 2315 citations) and Cell (Cell. 2020;180(3):568-584.e23.) T.L was also involved in a recent paper in NEJM forming the scientific basis for childhood cardiovascular risk prevention from childhood to adulthood (N Engl J Med. 2022;386(20):1877-1888). The most long-standing interest of T.L. is focused on apolipoprotein E protein (80 publications+4 thesis) with several primary findings. The apoE testing, both analysis from CSF and genotyping are now a part of national/international guidelines for the diagnostic and treatment of dementia. Over the last 10 years, I have been consistently ranked as the number one medical researcher in the TUNI and among the top 3 medical researchers in Finland.
T.L. holds a significant patent (United States Patent No. 60/872,495, 2006) on a novel diagnostic test to predict statin myopathy.
