Diazo-Mediated Homologation Reactions

The use of diazo compounds in homologation reactions is timeless. Despite the first transformations being reported almost a century ago, this class of compounds continues to be used in both academia and industry. In this chapter we cover the main methods for preparation of diazo compounds mostly used for homologations, as well as the most common homologation methods, specifically the homologation of aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids, and their derivatives. The topics are introduced through a brief historical perspective and compile the most relevant works on the field of homologations with diazo compounds.
