Abstrakti

The paper explores the perception of academics, professionals and viewers about policymaking decision processes, which affect the quality of Public Service News in YLE and TVE. It aims to describe how the participation of professionals and academics in policymaking differs in a consensus culture society such as Finland versus a pluralist polarised country such as Spain.
For this purpose, the proposal offers an overview referring to the main variables that determine the media systems in Finland and Spain. Second, it describes recent policymaking processes in each country and, lastly, it explores how consensus or polarised logic permeates not only citizens and news professionals' perception on PSM, but also institutions.
