Abstrakti

Project portfolio management (PPM) is often treated as an isolated entity, with focus on portfolio actors’ routines driving project portfolio success. The parent organization’s personnel, customers, suppliers, and consultants may be more broadly involved in PPM, requiring increased understanding of stakeholders’ participation. This study explores internal and external stakeholders’ participation in PPM. We mapped their participation in innovation PPM in three industrial firms. The study reveals stakeholders’ participation patterns in terms of directing, informing, deciding, operationalizing, monitoring, and supporting. The findings offer evidence on the stakeholder view to PPM participation practices, thereby connecting the project portfolios with the context.
