The assessment of disasters is a challenging task due to the unpredictability of their occurrence and the associated logistical difficulties present. Subsequently, drones have been used in the field for humanitarian aid and regardless of the fact that the implementation of these devices presents several challenges, there is significant potential for their application. Drones can be used effectively in various humanitarian operations including for medical intervention, distribution, remote sensing and monitoring, search and rescue operations, etc. However, this study highlights several technical limitations that currently prevent these devices from being fully integrated into emergency response situations. These limitations include susceptibility to extreme weather, limited battery life, data transfer issues, cargo capacity, and flying endurance. It is also important to note that drones have the potential to cause tension and anxiety because of their data collection and capture capabilities. In a nutshell, this review reinforces the findings of earlier studies, where it was indicated that cutting-edge data collection technologies are frequently difficult to come by in the aftermath of widespread catastrophes.
