title = "The Photojournalistic Paradox: Trust in visual journalism",
abstract = "While visual technologies used in the production, editing, and presentation of journalism are changing in the digital era, the professional ethical codifications related to visual news photography have, however, remained quite stable in democratic societies in the past two decades. These ethical codifications have remained stable to build public trust in journalism. Paradoxically, those visual journalists following these ethical codes have been facing worsening work conditions, while media companies emphasize the increasing role of visuals in news. The chapter suggests tackling this paradox by understanding visual journalists as experts in the interrelations between images and knowledge, who are able to react proactively to novel developments in visual technologies.",
